A Warming North Sea

A Warming North Sea takes us beneath the surface of a sea undergoing profound change. What is happening to species that have lived here for thousands of years? Cod and shrimp, jellyfish and starfish – which will be able to adapt to warmer waters, and which are at risk of disappearing? And which new species are making their way here?

In the documentary, we meet some of Sweden’s leading marine scientists, who share the latest research and insights into what is happening in the North Sea. We follow their work both above and below the surface – from restoring seagrass meadows to creating artificial reefs designed to give Lophelia corals and other species new opportunities to establish and thrive.

But A Warming North Sea is not only about what we stand to lose.

Through spectacular underwater footage from Bohuslän on Sweden’s west coast, we discover a sea that is still rich in biodiversity and filled with a beauty that most of us have barely imagined.

We also meet a younger generation reflecting on the kind of sea they will inherit.

A Warming North Sea aims to inspire curiosity and engagement, and to show why this sea is worth fighting for. Because despite the challenges ahead, there is hope. The question is not only what will happen to the North Sea – but what we choose to do for it.
